Friends of Laclubar is a friendship link between Australia and Timor Leste focusing on the community of Laclubar, in the mountainous heart of  East Timor.  We support education and sustainable agriculture to alleviate poverty for the people of Laclubar.

Every year Friends of Laclubar give scholarships to over 30 students to complete their high school education in Laclubar. In 2011 a new wing of classrooms was completed allowing over 100 high school students to complete their education.

Friends of Laclubar are also part of a remarkable tree planting carbon offset project in Laclubar and Soibada. The Voluntary Carbon Offset Project led by GTNT Foundation links subsistence farmers into the international carbon market by growing trees for carbon capture which also improve their farms and food production.

President of Timor-Leste, H.E. Dr. José Ramos Horta had this to say about the support being given by Friends of Laclubar

“The projects that Friends of Laclubar and Skillset have launched and achieved are highly commendable. It shows their solidarity, spirit and generosity…

I think this is one of the most significant projects I have seen: in terms of the amount of money allocated and the speed with which it was done.  So I am very, very, grateful on behalf of the people of Laclubar, one of the most neglected places on earth.”

The Friends of Laclubar invite you to partner our Timorese neighbours through fundraising for these important development projects. Our aim is to build ongoing friendships with the East Timorese, to deliver tangible benefits to the Laclubar community and to develop models for sustainable independent  development.

You can become a Friend of Laclubar by making a donation and helping to sponsor our students. the carbon offset project and through support of the Voluntary Carbon Offset Project. We can also help you with contacts in Timor Leste if you wish to visit or volunteer in Laclubar, Manatuto Province.
